What Makes LTES
Special?
Tutors
come to you.
Most
tutoring companies require that you go to them for services. We don't.
We refer a tutor who will come to your home at a time that's convenient
for you, your child and the tutor. You don't have to spend 2 hours on
the road to get one hour of tutoring.
You
contract for what you need and no more.
Many
tutoring companies require that you buy a package or a particular learning
program-a specified number of sessions, which may or may not include an
initial diagnosis. We don't. You pay only for the number of sessions you
want per week, with a one-hour minimum per week. Any additional time is
at your discretion and by your choice. You can stop at any point. You
are in charge.
You
get one-on-one attention.
Many
companies see your child in a small group setting of 2-4 students. We
don't. Your tutor works with your child on a truly individualized basis.
You do not have to share a tutor with several other families, all of whom
are paying the same fee as you. We are not opposed to small groups. However,
tutors prefer to do their tutoring on a one-to-one basis to build a relationship
of trust between the tutor and the child.
No
Paperwork
Some
tutoring companies make you sign your life away to get help for your child.
We don't. Once we refer you to a tutor, you will contract directly with
that tutor regarding your needs, schedules, number of sessions, commitment
length, etc. You also pay your tutor directly by cash, check or money
order. If you have to change tutors or if the tutor is not a good match
for your child, we will be happy to refer another tutor to you.
We
maintain high standards and offer quality service.
Currently,
there are no standards that govern the activities of tutors in the state
of Maryland. Tutors are not required to hold licenses or certificates,
nor are they overseen by any regulatory commission. In the absence of
such oversight, it is up to the profession itself to establish standards
to guide the profession. LTES is a member of the Education Industry Association
(EIA) and several other professional organizations which carry standards
for tutoring services. In addition, all tutors must pass criminal,
experiential and educational background checks We also encourage our tutors
to be certified in infant/child CPR.
